Digital Desk: Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, said on Saturday that Governor Banwarilal Purohit has approved the "One MLA, One Pension" programme. The AAP administration hopes to save millions using this programme.

"I'm overjoyed that the Governor signed the bill enacting 'One MLA, One Pension.' An announcement has been made by the government. This will result in significant tax savings, Mann tweeted. About three months after the state cabinet approved the bill, the change was made.

The new plan intends to get rid of rewards based on how many terms an MLA has served. The government hopes to save Rs. 19 crore with this, according to an earlier report by HT.

Prior to this, the MLAs got different compensation for each term they had served. With the Governor's approval, this has changed.

To address a long-standing request, the Punjab cabinet adopted an amendment to the 1977 Punjab State Legislature Members (Pension and Medical Facilities Regulation) Act in May.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which won a sizable majority in the state elections held in February and March, had pledged that it would not permit the VIP culture to grow.

It had previously lowered the protection for hundreds of VIPs. With the passing of Congress leader and musician Sidhu Moosewala, the decision was sharply condemned.
