Digital desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first-ever underwater metro route in Kolkata, a landmark project showcasing the nation's stride towards infrastructure development. PM Modi also laid foundation stones for projects totaling ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata as part of his extensive 10-day journey across 12 states and union territories.

This is his second visit to West Bengal within just five days, underscoring the government's commitment to the region's development. Among the highlights of his visit was the inauguration of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor, a historic milestone marking India's first deepest Metro station, situated 30 meters below ground level at Howrah. Once operational, the corridor will facilitate seamless connectivity to key areas such as the bustling IT hub of Salt Lake Sector V.

Additionally, PM Modi launched several other train services during his visit, aimed at bolstering urban mobility. Noteworthy among these are the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections, designed to streamline transportation within Kolkata.
