Digital Desk: The BJP secured a historic victory in the Assam Legislative Assembly elections announced on May 4, delivering a decisive blow to the Congress party.

The NDA coalition claimed a commanding total of 102 seats, with the BJP winning 82, while the AGP and BPF secured 10 seats each.

In contrast, Congress managed to win only 19 seats.

The party faced a near-total collapse in Upper Assam, winning only 18 of the 99 constituencies it contested.

Furthermore, the demographic composition of the newly elected Congress cohort reflects a significant shift.

Of the 19 successful candidates, 18 are from the religious minority communities, leaving the party with only one Hindu representative in the Assembly.

Tensions escalated in Diphu following the announcement of election results after a petrol bomb attack targeted the residence of Ratan Engti, the Congress candidate from the Bokajan constituency and president of the district Congress committee.

Under the cover of night, unidentified miscreants threw six petrol bombs and two explosives at the leader's home.

The petrol bombs landed in the front vegetable garden, where they were discovered by residents the following morning.

Local police were immediately informed and a team arrived at the scene to recover the explosives.

The targeted attack has sparked widespread concern and a sense of unease throughout the area.
