Guwahati: An inter-state prostitution racket stationed in Guwahati’s Panbazar area has been busted by the Commissionerate of Police, Social Media Cell.

Recently, Police have come across some Twitter handles and websites asserting to provide escort service in Guwahati and other cities of Assam.

In connection with the case, an accused, identified as Nayanmoni Patowary, Manager of Hotel Minerva, Panbazar, has been arrested.

Upon interrogation, it was revealed one Saneep Kumar alias Mukul Bhardwaj alias Bambam was the main mastermind behind the prostitution racket.

It was revealed that Bhardwaj was running the racket with his wife named Diya Sarmah, alias Junaki Begum.

A team of Crime Branch arrested Diya Sarmah from Patharquari. However, it failed to arrest Bhardwaj.

A police report said the culprits used to communicate with the customers through online mode to fix the girl, date and rate.

Further, Police asserted the sex racket was being carried in Hotel Minerva, Panbazar or at a room rented by Bhardwaj in the Jiyabharali Apartment.

After technical analysis of mobile numbers used by Bhardwaj, it came to light that he carries different addresses to his name ranging from Delhi to Bihar to Maharashtra.

Later, on Sunday, the crime branch team arrested the mastermind Bhardwaj from Lakhisarai district, Bihar.

Currently, he was under the custody of the Assam police.

“We are interrogating Bhardwaj to unearth all sides of criminal activities being carried by this gang.” Police said.
