TEZPUR, June 24 – More than 400 families living in the secluded border areas of Sonitpur district continue to endure significant hardships, lacking fundamental amenities and formal land rights. Villages such as Tharabari, Gamariloga, Uttar-Rangagora, and Phulaguri, situated within the Rangapara LAC along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh frontier, remain cut off from modern facilities, prompting growing frustration among residents.
Local inhabitants highlight the critical absence of proper road connectivity, a reliable potable water supply, and crucial bridge infrastructure. This deficit forces students from these areas to undertake arduous journeys to attend schools and colleges in Amloga, Sengelimari, and Chardwar, often navigating challenging terrain daily.
A primary concern for the community is the river Tharabari, which originates in Arunachal Pradesh and flows through these settlements. Without a single bridge at several key crossings, residents face perilous situations, particularly during the monsoon season. Community representatives have repeatedly voiced their grievances, stating that the lack of proper communication routes severely impedes daily life and economic activities.
"The absence of bridges over the Tharabari river at places like Uttar-Rangagora creates a harrowing situation for everyone, from daily wage earners to schoolchildren," a local representative stated, expressing annoyance over what they perceive as the government's inaction despite numerous appeals. Residents confirm that multiple representations detailing their long-standing problems, including the urgent need for a bridge over the Tharabari, have been submitted to the relevant authorities, yet tangible progress remains elusive. The families continue to await decisive action to improve their living conditions and grant them secure land tenure.
