  • The decision came days after the Bengaluru stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Digital Desk: Top Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials A Shankar and E S Jairam have resigned from their respective positions of secretary and treasurer of the cricketing body.

The decision came days after the Bengaluru stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The tragic stampede incident killed 11 people and injured 54 others.

Both Shankar and Jairam took moral responsibility for the incident amid an ongoing probe into the matter.

They submitted their resignation on Thursday night to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat.

On June 4, chaos erupted outside the stadium when lakhs of RCB fans gathered after RCB's now-deleted social media invitation.

The victory parade was cancelled but the trophy celebration function inside the stadium progressed despite the fatal incident that claimed the lives of 11 people including a student and a woman.

A complaint has been also registered against RCB star Virat Kohli in connection with the stampede case outside the stadium.

Activist HM Venkatesh, a resident of Karnataka's Shivamogga district, filed the complaint on Friday.

The Bengaluru Police registered a case against the RCB team, the KSCA, DNA Entertainment Private Limited, and others in connection with the tragic incident.

Police also arrested RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale, and detained three staff members of DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the organiser of the victory celebration.
