Chennai: For the last three days, Chennai has been reeling under unrelenting showers, leading to inundation in major roads and bylanes. Many neighbourhoods are now without power supply. However, water has started receding since Monday.
Four people have died due to rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu and over 260 huts and 70 houses have been damaged. The city and its neighbouring districts are likely to face more days of intense rain and an alert has been issued for people living in low-lying areas in parts of the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of more rains in the next few hours. Flood alert has been issued to people living in low-lying areas in the Delta basin.
In Chennai, 1,107 people have been sheltered in 48 relief camps and over 3,50,000 food packets have been provided. In the northern districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Chengelpet and Tiruvallur, 314 people have been housed in 10 shelters.
As per MET reports, a low pressure area is very likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood during the next 24 hours, the Meteorological department has said. It is likely to move west-northwestwards, concentrate into a depression and reach near North Tamil Nadu coast by November 11 early morning and bring widespread rainfall in several regions of the state.
