 Digital Desk: On Monday, the Reserve Bank of India confirmed that it is not considering replacing Mahatma Gandhi's visage with that of others on existing currency and banknotes.

"According to reports in some sections of the media, the Reserve Bank of India is considering replacing Mahatma Gandhi's face on existing currency and banknotes with that of others. It should be highlighted that the Reserve Bank has made no such proposal "In a statement, the RBI said.

 

According to rumours, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is considering including portraits of Rabindranath Tagore and A P J Abdul Kalam on the new series of currency notes, alongside Mahatma Gandhi.

 

The central bank and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL) sent two sample sets of Gandhi, Tagore, and Kalam to IIT-Delhi Emeritus Professor Dilip T Shahani, who is in charge of selecting and submitting watermarks to the government for final approval.
