Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Assam on April 29 as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's election drive for Bijuli Kalita Medhi, the party's candidate for the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency. Shah will headline a significant 2-kilometer roadshow in Guwahati to rally support for the upcoming elections.

 

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of Shah's visit, announcing, "Amit Shah will kick off a roadshow commencing from the cycle factory and concluding in the Lal Ganesh area of Guwahati on April 29."

 

In a strategic move, the BJP has fielded Bijuli Kalita Medhi as its candidate for the Guwahati constituency, replacing the current MP, Queen Oja.

 

Medhi, a former deputy mayor of Guwahati, will contend with a diverse field of candidates, including Mira Barthakur Goswami of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, Shejon Goyary of the Bahujan Maha Party, Samad Choudhury of the Bharatiya Gana Parishad, Dipak Kumar Boro of the Voters Party International, Amitabh Sarma of the Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal, and independent candidates Kazi Nekib Ahmed and Col (retired) Gokul Chandra Singha.

 

The voting for the Guwahati constituency is slated for May 7, marking the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam. Guwahati is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, with simultaneous voting for the Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri Lok Sabha seats on the same day.
