Digital Desk: After President Droupadi Murmu approved the women's reservation bill, Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam became a law in India. As it becomes act now 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies will be reserved for women. However, the reservation will be implemented after the new census and delimitation.
The women's reservation bill was approved by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha this month during a special session of Parliament, making it a historic accomplishment for the Indian Parliament as it moved to a new building on September 19.
Only AIMIM opposed the women's reservation law, claiming that it would primarily benefit Savarna women as there is no reservation for Muslim women representatives. Even after it was approved by the President and passed by the Parliament, the Congress requested OBC reservation and raised concerns about how long it would take to be implemented.
Earlier on Thursday, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar signed the bill as passed by Parliament before it was presented to President Murmu for her assent.
