During that encounter, Shah underlined the need for peace in Manipur as a whole.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a high-level discussion on the current situation in Manipur on Monday, shortly after his returning from his two-nation (US and Egypt) tour.

According to sources, the meeting took place after Union Home Minister Amit Shah updated PM Modi on the events in Manipur.

According to sources, prominent cabinet ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman and Hardeep Puri, as well as Union Home Minister Shah, attended the meeting presided over by PM Modi. They further stated that senior officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and intelligence agencies were there.

Shah's report to PM Modi came just one day after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with Shah on Sunday. During this time, Singh stated that the situation in the state is currently under control and that it will improve shortly.

During that encounter, Shah underlined the need for peace in Manipur as a whole. Following their discussion, Singh tweeted that the home minister "assured that the central government will take all possible steps to restore normalcy in Manipur."

On Saturday, an all-party meeting on the Manipur unrest was conducted, during which the opposition chastised Modi for travelling as the violence in Manipur continued.
