Digital Desk: The Durga Puja, one of India’s most revered and vibrant festivals, is all set to begin from September 27, 2025, and will culminate with Durga Visarjan on 2nd October , 2025.Kolkata, Assam, Odisha, Bihar and Tripura: This festival is celebrated with much glory and pomp, especially in West Bengal; this festival marks the triumph of good over evil and honors the divine feminine power of Maa Durga.
During Shardiya Navratri, Durga Puja starts on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Hindu month of Ashwin (September- October). Various religious practices, cultural performances and communal meetings characterize the six day festival.
Here’s the schedule for Durga Puja 2025:
28th September – Shashthi (Kalparambha, Bodhan)
29th September – Maha Saptami (Kolabou Puja)
30th September – Maha Ashtami (Sandhi Puja)
1st October – Maha Navami (Navami Homa)
2nd October – Bijoyadashami, Durga Bisarjan, Sindoor Khela
In the festival, statue of Maa Durga is worshipped in well-decorated pandals and houses. This is an occasion that is marked with unanimous fervor, music, dance and traditional practices especially among the Bengali community.
Everyday of the Puja is spiritually significant:-
Shashthi begins with Kalparambha and unveiling of the idol (Bodhan).
Saptami features the Nabapatrika or Kolabou ritual, where nine sacred plants are bathed.
Ashtami is marked by Sandhi Puja, commemorating the goddess’s victory over Mahishasura.
Nabami concludes with final bhog offerings.
Bijoya Dashami sees idol immersion (Bisarjan), and rituals like Sindoor Khela as devotees bid farewell to the goddess.
