Digital Desk: The Assam Forest Department is in the midst of establishing the 'Urpad Beel' as the conservation reserve/wildlife sanctuary in the Goalpara district.

The wetlands, which were recently designated as a Significant Bird Area by the Bombay Natural History Society, attract thousands of migratory waterfowl each year.

The six-square-kilometre beel is located in Agia, roughly 10 km from Goalpara along National Highway 37.

Urpad Beel is one of the largest natural lakes in Lower Assam.

It is well-known for its natural resources, which include fish and birds of various types such as adjutant stork, whistling teal, and kingfisher, as well as water flora such as water lily and water hyacinth.
