The victim was lured to sell his kidney by offering him money and employment opportunities
Digital Desk: On 8th May, a major illegal human organ trafficking racket has been exposed in Assam after a joint operation by the Dibrugarh and Tinsukia police led to the arrest of four alleged organ brokers. The incident has triggered widespread concern across the state over the growing network of illegal organ trade.
The accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain (53), Shankar Chentanu (28), Samir Paul (37), and Gopal Roy (31). Among them, Samir Paul and Gopal Roy are residents of Dibrugarh, while Zakir Hussain and Shankar Chentanu are from Margherita.
As per sources, the accused were allegedly attempting to lure a man identified as Rajib Dey (35) of Margherita into selling his kidney by offering him money and employment opportunities. The operation was launched following a complaint filed by Rajib Dey’s family.
The special drive was conducted under the leadership of Tinsukia DSP Faiz Ahmed, with assistance from the Dibrugarh Police. During the operation, police managed to apprehend all four accused red-handed in Dibrugarh.
Margherita Police have already registered a case against the accused and launched a detailed investigation into the matter. Police are now probing whether any major hospital or medical professionals are linked to the organ trafficking network.
The incident has created massive sensation across Assam, with people demanding strict action against such broker networks accused of exploiting poor and vulnerable individuals for illegal organ trade.
