The COVID-19 vaccination programme is being expanded and scaled up by the central government countrywide. The countrywide COVID-19 vaccination programme kicked off on January 16, 2021.

The second stage of the COVID-19 vaccination programme began on June 21, 2021. The immunisation campaign has grown as a result of the availability of more vaccinations, early communication of vaccine availability to States and UTs enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.

As part of the nationwide immunisation campaign, the Government of India has been helping the States and UTs by providing them with free COVID vaccinations.

As part of the new phase of the COVID-19 immunisation drive, the Union Government would purchase and supply (free of charge) to States and UTs 75% of the vaccinations being produced by the nation's vaccine manufacturers. (ANI)
