Digital Desk: Tezpur is celebrating a historic achievement as Saya Barua, a proud daughter of Rangapukhuri, has become the first Indian woman to win a Gold Medal at the 16th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship 2025, bringing immense pride to Assam and the entire nation.

Saya Barua attended the world championship held from 11th  to 16th  November 2025, representing the Indian Bodybuilding Federation, in Bali, Indonesia. This was an international competition with participants from a total of 46 countries.

In the Athletic Physique category, Above 165 cm, Saya won a Silver Medal, exhibiting remarkable skill and discipline. However, the crowning glory was the Gold Medal she won in the Open Category, where she competed against over 50 world-class athletes to win the top spot, thus ensuring the title of World Champion-the first Indian woman to achieve this honor in the history of the championship.

Her victory has generated widespread joy and celebration across Tezpur and the Sonitpur district. Upon her returning  to her hometown last night, a felicitation  ceremony was organized today at the Axomiya Club in Tezpur by the Sonitpur District Bodybuilding Association.

The event was also attended by distinguished guests like Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, who felicitated Saya with a traditional gamusa and floral bouquet on behalf of the district administration.

Leaders of various sports associations—including the District Bodybuilding Association, Powerlifting Association, Weightlifting Association, Tug-of-War Association, and Yoga Sports Association—also extended their congratulations.

Speaking to the media, Saya shared her inspiring journey and the challenges she overcame to achieve this remarkable milestone. Her victory marks a new chapter in Indian bodybuilding, establishing her as the first Indian woman to win Gold in the Open Category at the World Bodybuilding Championship.
