Chamoli: In the continuing rescue operations in the Uttarakhand glacier disaster, 36 bodies have been recovered till date with over 150 still missing. Two men were found alive yesterday, raising hopes among the rescue agencies as they search among the sludge and rubble for survivors.
The rescue agencies began drilling in Tapovan tunnel, rummaging through the debris and cleaning the slush while looking out for 30 people who are believed to be trapped inside. The operation was stalled after the Dhuliganga River began swelling again.'

In order to provide oxygen supply to the trapped people, the agencies are trying to establish a ‘life-saving system’, by means of oxygen at the ‘head-race tunnel’, which is a network of tunnel. While the main tunnel, where the rescue operations are underway is a 1.5 km long stretch, the other tunnels are further below and it is believed that more people could be trapped in these areas.

A multi-agency rescue team involving Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Army are carrying out the search and rescue operations in the district.
