At the Ringhim Helipad today, 82 people in all were evacuated from Lachung and Pegong...

Digital Desk: The evacuation process in Lachung has been completed, which is a huge relief for the Sikkim authorities.

The evacuation operation in the Himalayan state ravaged by the natural disaster was completed on Friday with the airlifting out of the final group of tourists and other inhabitants from Lachung.

At the Ringhim Helipad today, 82 people in all were evacuated from Lachung and Pegong. 29 vacationers, 30 residents, and 23 laborers were among them. Nine of them were flown in VT-OSC five-seat twin-engine helicopters, while 73 of them were transported by air force helicopters.

With this development, everyone in Lachung, including the tourists who were stranded, has been evacuated.

The Lhonak Lake eruption in North Sikkim, which resulted in a significant influx into the Teesta River in the early hours of October 4, was what caused the flash flood.

In the Teesta River Valley in Sikkim, bridges, sections of NH10, small towns, and infrastructure suffered significant damage as a result of the flash flood.
