Digital Desk: After learning that an 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome was being bullied at school, the President of the Republic of North Macedonia escorted her to class. The President is being lauded for taking this significant step toward inclusivity.
When President Stevo Pendarovski learned that Embla Ademi, an 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome from Gostivar, was enduring discrimination at school, he went to see her. Pendarovski also accompanied Embla to her elementary school, 'Edinstvo.' The President spoke with the girl's family to understand the obstacles they encounter daily, including bullying, and encouraged them "in their fight for the protection of the rights of children," according to the statement.

"Embla's case reminds us of the prejudices we live with and the need for greater protection and cares for children with disabilities," the Macedonian President wrote while sharing a video of their meeting on Instagram.
Pendarovski also emphasised the significance of adhering to the legal requirements for inclusion in educational institutions, emphasising social responsibility. "The President said that the behaviour of those who endanger children's rights is unacceptable, especially when it comes to children with atypical development," the statement noted.
He emphasised that no child should be left behind and that children with special needs should not only have the rights they deserve but should also feel equal and accepted in their places of learning.
"It is our obligation, as a state, but also as individuals, and the key element in this common mission is empathy. It will help children like Embla, but it will also help us learn from them how to sincerely rejoice, share and be in solidarity," Pendarovski was quoted.
