Digital Desk: In a heartbreaking depiction of the human cost of Russia's war, an 11-year-old Ukrainian child walked into neighbouring Slovakia alone as his parents remained behind. According to Slovakia's interior ministry, the child set off on his expedition with a backpack, a plastic bag, a passport, and a phone number scrawled on his palm. Volunteers handed the kid food and drink following his arrival in Slovakia, according to photos released by the ministry on Facebook. "This is the biggest hero of last night," the Slovakian ministry said. "He won them (volunteers) over with his smile, fearlessness and determination, worthy of a true hero." The child's family were reached using the phone number he was holding and a piece of paper he was carrying, and they arrived to take him up. "The whole storey ended well," according to the Facebook post. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has lasted 12 days, resulting in severe losses and an unprecedented refugee catastrophe. So far, 15 lakh people have fled Ukraine, according to the United Nations. Russia has increased its bombardment on Ukrainian cities. AFP reports that hundreds of civilians had been slain in Chernihiv, Ukraine's northernmost city. The city is in shambles. Residents in Mariupol have been without water and power.
