Digital Desk: Neiphiu Rio, the head of the NDPP, was sworn in as the fifth chief minister of Nagaland.

As the state's deputy chief ministers, T R Zeliang and Y Patton were sworn in, and other Rio cabinet members also took the oath.

Among those sworn in as council of ministers members were Salhoutuonuo Kruse, one of the two women elected to the Nagaland parliament for the first time, and Temjen Imna Along, the state BJP chairman who is well-known on social media throughout the nation for his sense of humour.

Those in attendance included BJP president J P Nadda, Federal Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Even though the NDPP-BJP coalition won 37 seats in the 60-member House in the most recent assembly elections in the northeastern state, Rio will head an all-party government without opposition.

The alliance led by Rio has received letters of support from all major parties in the state.
