Digital Desk: Paing Takhon, a model and actor who has recently been crowned the "Most Handsome Face" of 2021 by entertainment website TC Candler, was sentenced to three years in prison for speaking out during protests in Myanmar.
Takhon was dubbed the world's "Most Handsome Face" for 2021, which coincided with his imprisonment this week for his participation in Myanmar's anti-coup protests earlier this year. In April, he was detained for publicly supporting protestors on social media.
Takhon shot to international fame in early 2021 after a series of viral social media posts-old dubbed him the "hot monk." He has already acted in several Myanmar films and television programs at the time.
TC Candler recognized his popularity and dubbed him the "Most Handsome Face" of 2021, alongside Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink, who was voted the "Most Beautiful Face." Since 1990, the outlet has compiled an annual list of the world's "Most Beautiful Faces."
According to his legal team, Takhon was sentenced to three years of prison with hard work this week.
More than 7,000 people have been arrested in the protest, and over 1,000 people have been killed. It started in February after a military coup in which prominent government officials were imprisoned, including civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
