Many people with this condition fear taking off their shoes in the presence of others. This is an unpleasant condition which is medically referred to as bromodosis, and the good news is: it is controllable.


In order to fight against stinky feet, one should know the reason behind them. Bacteria and moisture are the major offenders. Bacteria are common parts of our feet since they thrive in oils and dead skin. Once they are mixed with sweat, they will create unpleasant smelling compounds causing foot odor.


Here are practical tips and home remedies to help reduce foot odor:


Foot Hygiene

·        Wash your feet twice daily with antibacterial soap.

·        Dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.

·        Apply foot powder before putting on footwear.


Footwear Tips

·        Choose breathable shoes with mesh panels.

·        Rotate shoes to allow them to air out.

·        Avoid plastic footwear and opt for odor-reducing insoles.

·        Wear sandals or go barefoot at home to let your feet breathe.


Socks Matter

·        Always wear clean socks and change them at least once a day.

·        Choose moisture-wicking materials.

·        Sprinkle talc or corn starch in your socks before wearing.


Effective Home Remedies

·        Dab between toes with rubbing alcohol.

·        Soak feet in salt water, baking soda, or vinegar solutions.

·        Scrub feet regularly with a pumice stone.

·        Maintain routine pedicures for clean, healthy feet.


In case the remedies show no results even after these attempts, it’s advisable to consult a podiatrist. They are capable of offering medical interventions to cases that are more complicated, and they can also provide care to ensure that such a problem is not caused by any other underlying cause.
