The terminal will provide more efficient and seamless transportation of both passengers and commodities, which is expected to strengthen the state's economy.

Digital Desk: The first river terminal in India is set to open in Guwahati, Assam. This development represents a major turning point for the nation's logistics and transportation sector.

The terminal will provide more efficient and seamless transportation of both passengers and commodities, which is expected to strengthen the state's economy.

The initiative is an aspect of the government's larger plan to improve connectivity and boost regional economic development.

Assam's Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma officially opened the Guwahati Gateway Ghat (GGG) building site on May 13, 2022. This is India's first modern river ferry terminal.

The World Bank-funded initiative is anticipated to transform Assam's rivers. Northeastern India's main city, Guwahati, is situated on the Brahmaputra River's south bank.

The Ports & Waterways teams in India designed the terminal, which will have facilities including cafes, a canteen, and ramps for people with disabilities.

The GGG will provide passengers in Guwahati and surrounding river access locations, or "ghats," year-round, safe and fun river transportation.
