Digital Desk: Achanta Sharath Kamal won a gold medal in the men's single table tennis finals on Monday (August 8). Veteran Sharath Kamal extended his hegemony at the Commonwealth Games by earning gold in the men's singles category, defeating England's Liam Pitchford 4-1 in the final. After faltering in the first game, Sharath, 40, outwitted the 29-year-old nimble-footed Briton 11-13 11-7 11-2 11-6 11-8 to finish on top of the podium after a 16-year absence. It is important to note that with this victory, Sharath has now won 13 medals in the CWG since his debut in 2006. 

Sharath previously took home the gold in men's singles at the Melbourne Games in 2006, as well as a bronze at the championship event in New Delhi in 2010. The superstar paddler from Tamil Nadu has won four medals in this Olympics, including gold in the men's team and mixed team events, as well as silver in the men's doubles competition.
