Nitish Kumar had earlier snapped ties with the NDA in 2022 when he resigned as chief minister and joined the Mahagathbandhan after garnering support from the alliance.

Digital Desk: Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar has resigned from his position as chief minister of Bihar after days of speculation. He had severed his ties to the Mahagathandhan to break away from the ruling government as “not everything was alright".

Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan in Patna, stating that his party has chosen to break its connections with the Mahagathbandhan, which was formed by the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

"This situation came because not everything was alright...I was getting views from everyone. I listened to all of them. Today, the government has been dissolved," Nitish Kumar said, adding, "We have decided to sever ties with the Mahagathbandhan in the state," Nitish Kumar told the Bihar Governor.

UP NEXT FOR NITISH KUMAR?

Until a new state government is established, Nitish Kumar will serve as the acting chief minister of Bihar.

Nitish Kumar would probably be staking a claim to form the government with the backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators after severing ties with the Mahagathbandhan. Nitish Kumar would also be appointing new ministers from the BJP after taking oath as the chief minister.
