Digital Desk: Pro-talk ULFA leader Anup Chetia has expressed his reaction to the Indian Army’s assault on the ULFA (I) camp in Myanmar.
According to Chetia, ULFA (I) commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah informed him about the incident early in the morning, expressing deep sorrow over the news.
Chetia revealed that the camp led by Nayan Asom suffered major damage during the attack. He described Nayan Asom as a brave Assamese warrior who sacrificed his life while trying to rescue two sick cadres in the camp, as informed by Baruah.
Anup Chetia also speculated that the Assam police might have been unaware of the operation. He noted that fears of such an attack had arisen following a recent strike on a PLA camp.
Additionally, he suggested the possibility of the attack being linked to decisions made during the BRICS meeting held in Brazil.
Chetia shared that Baruah had mentioned over the phone that the government had been discussing potential negotiations with ULFA (I). While ULFA (I) was considering participating in these discussions, the sudden attack has left the organization unsure about its next course of action.
Anup Chetia emphasized that the issue requires a political resolution to move forward.
The Indian Army launched a massive drone attack on the ULFA(I) camps, located in Myanmar, deploying over 300 drones in an intense two-hour operation.
During the attack, ULFA(I) cadre, Nayan Asom (58), lost his life and around 19 ULFA(I) cadres sustained injuries.
During Nayan Asom's funeral, another strike claimed the lives of two additional ULFA cadres. A press statement from ULFA was later released to the media.
