Digital Desk: In yet another renaming activity undertaken by the Yogi led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, the Jhansi railway station has been renamed after Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. The station will from now on be called as Veerangana Laxmibai railway station, after the valiant queen of Jhansi, who fought bravely against the British forces during India’s freedom struggle.

The announcement of the station renaming was made by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath via tweet in Hindi, which translated in English reads as , “The Jhansi Railway station will now be known as ‘Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station’,” Yogi Adityanath wrote.

The UP government has released a notice to this effect and already preparations are underway to implement the change, Chief PRO of North Central Railway, Prayagrah, Shivam said while addressing the media.

The notification stated that the renaming was done following a “no-objection’ given by the Ministry of Home Affairs in a letter dated November 24, 2021.

Earlier, the Mughalsarai railway station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayan Upadhyay Railway Station.

While Allahabad has been renamed as Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Mirazapur, Aligarh, Firozabad and Mainpuri are also on the list for a name change. Meanwhile, the government is mulling plans to rename Ghazipur and Bastipur stations as well.
