Digital Desk: India's popular food delivery service, Zomato has announced 800 new job openings in five different positions. The CEO, Deepinder Goyal, announced the vacancies on the social media platform LinkedIn, claiming that the posts-old include for a Growth Manager, Product "owner," chief of staff to the CEO, Generalist, and Software Development Engineer. Goyal has asked potential candidates to send their resumes directly to deepinder@zomato.com.

This hiring initiative is surprising considering the recent surge in layoffs at various organizations both domestically and internationally. However, Zomato has decided to take a fresh approach and expand its workforce. The organization is now seeking qualified applicants to fill these positions and is open to recommendations from individuals who know someone who is qualified for the posts-old.

Moreover, the CEO has announced a new post titled "Chief of Staff to CEO." According to the job description, the applicant must be "not less than a mini-CEO as head of staff." This position is expected to be crucial to the company's growth and development.

However, this announcement comes after Zomato laid off 100 employees in November of last year. The company's main rival, Swiggy, recently announced the termination of 380 employees as well. Both the pandemic and the recession have had an impact on the job market in India's startup ecosystem. In this scenario, Zomato's decision to expand its workforce and open up new roles is a wise move.

The corporation has made it absolutely clear that the goal of the layoffs last year was to cut expenses and increase profit. Product, technology, catalogue, and marketing activities were impacted, but supply chain staff were not. A company spokesperson stated that the layoffs were required to protect the company's long-term existence.
