Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, and BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar were among the attendees.
On the 298th anniversary of the birth of the 18th-century ruler of Malwa's Holkar dynasty, Ahilyabai Holkar, the city will be renamed Ahilyanagar in honour of the Maratha warrior queen.
At a public gathering held in Chondi, Ahmednagar, CM Eknath Shinde stated, "Respecting the public demand, Ahmednagar will now be after Ahilyadevi Holkar," according to PTI. He stated, "The state administration made this decision. And I'm honoured to have participated in this historic occasion with Devendra Ji.

NCP state president and MLA Jayant Patil stated, "We welcome the government's decision to change the name of Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar. People in the state are now aware that the Shinde-Fadnavis administration is losing support daily. Therefore, such choices are made to gain favour. The choice is welcomed.
