Japanese Encephalitis is a viral brain infection which is spread by mosquito bites.

Digital Desk: Japanese Encephalitis claimed  (JE) claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy in Assam’s Rupahihat on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Taibur Islam, who passed away while receiving medical care at a private hospital in Nagaon.

It is to be noted that in Lakhimpur region of Assam, a child passed away from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) last month while numerous others contracted the illness.

Japanese Encephalitis is a viral brain infection which is spread by mosquito bites. When mosquitoes bite infected animals, the virus—found in pigs and birds—is transmitted to the insects. The illness has no recognised cure. The focus of treatment is on easing severe clinical signs and helping the patient fight the illness.

The state government has in the meantime issued the following directives to prevent us from contracting the disease:

1. Wear full-sleeved tops or fully covered clothing to avoid being bitten by mosquitos.

2. Use a mosquito net, insect repellent creams, liquid vapourizers, etc. to keep mosquitoes away from your home

3. Avoid letting water accumulate inside and outside of the premises, and run smoke across the house.
