Millions of people worldwide have converted from using plastic bags to paper bags. Many individuals continue to use plastic bags, nevertheless, with little regard for the environment. Because of this, we observe Paper Bag Day on July 12.

Digital Desk: Every year on July 12, people celebrate Paper Bag Day. The purpose of the day is to encourage using paper bags rather than plastic ones. Alarming amounts of plastic pollution are a result of the growing usage of plastic. People are encouraged to use paper bags instead of plastic ones on this day in an effort to reduce plastic pollution.

History

Francis Wolle invented the first device for mass-producing paper bags in 1852. Then in 1871, inventor Margaret E. Knight developed a device that produced paper bags with a flat bottom. Later, Charles Stilwell invented a machine that produced paper bags with square bottoms and pleated sides, which were simpler to handle and fold.

Walter Deubener created the current generation of paper bags with handles in 1912. However, plastic bags, which were introduced in the 1970s as a less expensive substitute, eventually took the place of these paper bags.

Paper bags have returned as environmental activists and environmentalists sound the alarm about the rising use of plastic and its damaging impact on the ecosystem.
