Digital Desk: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set a world record by laying a 75-kilometer length of roadway in Maharashtra between Amravati and Akola in less than five days.

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, also took to Twitter to publish a certificate from the Guinness World Records authority.

"From 3 to 7 June 2022, Raj Path Infracon Pvt. Ltd. and Jagdish Kadam (both India) erected the longest continuous piece of asphalt/bituminous concrete between Amravati and Akola Districts on NH53, India," according to the Guinness World Records certificate.

"NHAI has made history by creating 75 kilometres of continuous bituminous concrete in a single lane on the length of NH-53 between Amravati and Akola," Gadkari tweeted.

"This 75 km single lane continuous bituminous concrete road is equivalent to 37.5 km of 2-lane paved shoulder road," he continued, "and a team of 800 NHAI Official employees and 720 workers, including a team of independent consultants, were involved in the work, which began at 7:27 a.m. on June 3, 2022 and ended at 5:00 p.m. on June 7, 2022."

The Amravati-Akola Highway construction project began at 6 a.m. on June 3 and was expected to be completed by June 7, setting a world record. The scheme involved 800 staff and 700 labourers, including highway engineers, safety engineers, and surveyors, in order to finish the work in the shortest period possible.

The Rajput Infracon has previously set a world record by constructing a road from Sangli to Satara in 24 hours. As part of the government's monetization agenda, NHAI announced on June 3 that it has offered a further three motorways totaling 247 kilometres to its Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT).
