Significant damage has been caused to both human life and property in Uttarakhand as a result of recent severe rains.

Digital Desk: In the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Sunday, a bus carrying Gujarati pilgrims crashed into a canyon, resulting in up to seven casualties and 28 injuries.

At Gangnani, an accident occurred as the bus was on its way back from Gangotri. There were 35 passengers in the vehicle when it plunged into the gorge.

Rescue efforts are being carried out at the site of the accident in Uttarkashi, as can be seen in a video posted by All India Radio News on X (previously Twitter).

In the incident, four pilgrims suffered serious injuries, while 24 others only had minor injuries. The rescue passengers underwent immediate medical attention at a neighbourhood district hospital.

Top officials were briefed on the incident by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. According to a report by the news agency PTI, he gave instructions for the prompt start of relief and rescue activities.

Arpan Yaduvanshi, Superintendent of Police, and District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela arrived at the scene of the accident. In addition, Dehradun residents have been instructed to keep a helicopter on standby for potential relief operations.

Gujarat's chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, expressed regret for the accident and stated that his administration was in contact with the Uttarakhand administration.

“I am saddened by the tragic incident in which the pilgrims from Gujarat lost their lives due to the bus falling into the valley in Uttarakhand. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. The Gujarat government is in constant touch with the Uttarakhand government regarding the incident. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured citizens,” Bhupendra Patel said on X.
