Digital desk: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, enforcement agencies in the neighboring Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya and the Kamrup metropolitan district of Assam carried out an integrated effort focused on combating the illicit liquor trade.

The Department of Excise was in charge of the operation. Considerable amounts of illegal substances, such as country liquor, branded foreign liquor, and fermented wash, were seized as a result of the operations.

The officer stated that in addition to 27 liters of foreign liquor, more than 50 liters of illegal country-made liquor, known as Sulai, were sized. They also inspected over 1,600 kg of fermented wash, a high-density liquid made from fermenting millet grains by yeast and containing a mixture of alcohol and water.

Authorities in charge informed the media that everything that had been seized was thought to be intended for illegal sales in Meghalaya, indicating the cross-border nature of the illegal alcohol trade in the area.

In response, representatives of the Excise department declared their commitment to putting an end to these illegal activities, particularly in the run-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Fermented wash, which is typically used as a precursor to illegally brewed alcohol, poses serious health risks and fuels organized crime networks involved in drug trafficking.

This could translate into a significant number of counterfeit arrests, which is a triumph that emphasizes the efforts made by law enforcement agencies to uphold the rule of law and order in an attempt to prevail throughout the electoral process.

Speaking on the exercise, the spokesperson for the Department of Excise called attention to the necessity of proactive steps to break the supply chain of illicit alcohol and stop it from being sold. This action undermines the efforts made by the authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure public safety.

The present effort to combat the illegal liquor trade is only one of the steps taken by law enforcement agencies to stop various criminal activities that pose a threat to the community's security and health. Authorities will continue to be attentive in their attempts to deal with criminal activity and uphold the integrity of the electoral process as long as elections are in sight.
