  • ONGC's Regional Crisis Management team has struggled to control the gas leak at Rig No
  • RDS 147

Digital Desk: Since last Thursday, the Oil & Natural Gas Company's (ONGC) Regional Crisis Management team has struggled to control the natural gas leak at ONGC's Rig No. RDS 147 in the Bhatiapar-Bari chuk area of Sivasagar.

Despite deploying various technologies over the past three days, the authorities are now preparing to implement a method known as the 'junk shot operation' on June 15, though it has so far proven ineffective in containing the leak.

Meanwhile, Akhil Gogoi, the MLA of the Sivasagar constituency, visited the site and met with Mr. Hari, the All India Head of the Regional Crisis Management team.

During their discussion, Mr. Hari acknowledged that the efforts of the past two days had been unsuccessful but emphasized that valuable insights had been gathered from these failed attempts.

He also admitted that there is no clear timeline for resolving the crisis at the rig.

Notably, Mr. Hari described the situation at the site as a geological anomaly.

He further informed Mr. Gogoi that the unexpectedly discovered natural gas reservoir has the potential to become a significant asset for Assam.
